volunteer at the hospital

Becoming a volunteer at Rome Memorial Hospital can be a rewarding experience. Your talents and passion to help others will complement our professional staff, ensuring every patient's stay is a pleasant one. Volunteering provides you with the opportunity to utilize your current skills or gain new ones in areas of interest to you.

We strive to make assignments that balance the needs of the hospital with your areas of interest. Understanding the need for flexible scheduling, volunteers are assigned during the day, evening or weekend.

We have a need for volunteers in both clinical and non-clinical areas.  Some volunteer job titles include:

o     Patient Care Area Assistant

o     Patient Escort/Errand Runner

o     RHCF Activity Helper

o     Clerical Assistant/Typist

o     Patient Greeter

The New York State Health Department requires that we have the following health information on file for all volunteers.  You are required to provide:

o     Your immunization records showing that you have had two shots for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), or if you were born before 1956, proof of immunity to Rubella. (1 shot or a blood test)

o     Copy of a physical done within one year

o     A mantoux (TB) test done within a year

We have openings for a limited number of student volunteers.  Students must be at least 14 years old and submit the following documents:

o     Your immunization record, showing that you have had 2 Rubella (3-day measles) and 2 Rubeola (measles) shots

o     Your working papers

o     A physical done within 1 year or a statement from your doctor saying you are free of communicable disease and volunteering will not harm your health

o     Permission slip signed by parent or guardian

o     A mantoux (TB) test done within a year

We hope that you will join our team at Rome Memorial Hospital and know that you will find your experience here a rewarding one.  If interested, please call Volunteer Coordinator Ms. Julie Chrysler at 338-7134.
