Physical Therapist Certified

In McKenzie Method

ROME - Buffie Brothers, P.T., Cert. MDT, a physical therapist at Chestnut Commons Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Center has earned her certification in mechanical diagnosis and therapy from the McKenzie Institute International, Coon Rapids, MN.

She completed four continuing education courses and passed a written and practical examination to earn the specialty certification. The McKenzie method involves assessment to determine the cause of the problem and treatment to help decrease pain quickly, restore function, and minimize the number of visits to a therapist.

"Back and neck pain are among patients’ most common complaints," said Mrs. Brothers. "With the McKenzie method, patients begin seeing results in a matter of days, instead of weeks. We teach our patients techniques to prevent recurrences and specific exercises to help them alleviate symptoms if they do have a problem."

Mrs. Brothers has been helping people reduce pain and regain their mobility since graduating from D’Youville College, Buffalo, in 1997, with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical therapy. She joined Rome Memorial Hospital’s staff at its off-site physical therapy center four years ago.

Thomas K. Wick, P.T., Dip. MDT, the supervising therapist at the center, is one of approximately 200 physical therapists worldwide with a diploma in the McKenzie method of mechanical diagnosis and therapy for back and neck pain.
