Simpson Featured as Everyday Hero in National Publication
ROME – November 21, 2002 Rome Memorial Hospital Registered Nurse Rick Simpson and his experience as a medical team volunteer at Woodstock ’99 will be featured in the national publication “Everyday Heroes,” a book being published by Harvington Media.
Public Relations Director Cassie Evans Winter authored and submitted the story “Nurse Volunteers: Rome Memorial Hospital Nurse Provides a Peek Behind Woodstock’s Wall” to Harvington. The article was one of several chosen from hundreds of submissions for publication. “Our hospital is full of everyday heroes,” Winter said. “This story is just one example of how our staff’s commitment to our community often extends beyond the workplace. Woodstock is nationally known. Now, Rick’s story will be on the national stage.”
In the article, Winter shares with the reader Simpson’s experience as a medical volunteer at the MASH 201 Unit and the rewards and challenges associated with the experience. “It was very challenging, but in many ways it was medicine and nursing the way you’d like it—all patient and minimal paperwork,” Winter quoted Simpson as saying in the article.
Harvington Media President and Chief Executive Officer Chris Thrash wrote to Winter stating “your creative writing will inspire thousands of people across the nation and bring honor to ‘Everyday Heroes’ who work in healthcare.”
A portion of the sales of every copy of “Everyday Heroes” will be donated to Ronald McDonald House for the “tremendous, heroic work they do to provide accommodations and care for families of critically ill patients across the nation,” said Thrash. The book will be released in March 2003. Harvington Media, located in Midland, Texas, is a leadership and training organization. Their mission is to provide creative training solutions that will help organizations achieve their goals and enhance the development of their staff.
