Hospital Relocates Its Preoperative Office And Pain ManagementCenter To First Floor
September 16, 2002
ROME – Rome Memorial Hospital has relocated its preoperative office to the first floor, enabling patients to complete preoperative procedures more conveniently, announced Shirley Cummings, director of Perioperative Services.
Before a scheduled surgery, physicians often order routine lab work, x-rays, and EKGs to reduce the risk of complications. Rome Memorial Hospital patients also visit with a registered nurse to review their medical history as part of the preoperative procedures.
“Now, the preoperative office is on the same floor as lab and x-ray. The move also gives us the ability to bring EKGs to the patient in the preoperative suite, saving the patient a few more steps,” Cummings said.
“Even minor surgery can cause major anxiety for patients,” Cummings said. “During the preoperative or preadmission interview, we can help put your fears to rest by answering your questions and making sure that everything is in order before surgery. The preoperative coordinator discusses the plan of care for your stay and reviews pain control and discharge plans.”
Rome Memorial Hospital’s Pain Management Center has also been relocated to the preoperative suite on the first floor. At the Pain Management Center, Dr. Emmanuel Nebab, a board certified physician in pain management and anesthesiology, evaluates patients and treats them to reduce suffering and improve the body’s function.
The preoperative suite was renovated by the hospital’s Plant Management Department. The fourth floor space being vacated will provide additional patient care areas for the hospital’s Ambulatory Surgery Department.
