Rome Memorial Hospital’s

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

to Offer Maintenance Program

ROME- Rome Memorial Hospital is introducing a new maintenance program for people with heart disease to reinforce the healthy lifestyle changes patients make in the Cardiac Rehabilitation program.

The maintenance program will be offered to all participants who have completed cardiac rehabilitation at Rome Memorial Hospital or another facility, with doctor’s consent. The 50-minute exercise classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons starting Tuesday, July 17.

"Cardiac rehabilitation is a vital step to a successful recovery from a heart attack or bypass surgery," Josy Delaney, director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Rome Memorial Hospital, said. "Through cardiac rehabilitation, patients learn to make lifestyle modifications to improve their cardiac risk profiles."

"The maintenance program will provide a supportive environment to encourage patients to maintain their commitment to a healthier lifestyle," Delaney said. "The continuity will reinforce these lifestyle modifications, while increasing the patients’ own independence as they take control of managing their heart disease on a day-to-day basis."

Rome Memorial Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation program has helped nearly 200 patients make a safe and successful recovery since it opened its doors in April of 1999.

Delaney collects data on several quality of life indicators to monitor the program’s effectiveness. "These indicators have shown that patients experience improved physical functioning, vitality and emotional well-being after completing the program," she said. "The maintenance program will enable us to help our patients build upon their initial successes."

The maintenance program will be held in the Cardiac Rehabilitation department on the ground floor level of the hospital. For further information, please call the Cardiac Rehabilitation department at Rome Memorial Hospital at 338-7614.
