Superior Imaging. Expert Care. Convenience.
“There
is no other facility in the area that can compare to what we’ve achieved with
our new Medical Imaging Center in Rome. We took a thoughtful approach in
redesigning the environment to minimize our patients’ anxiety, while equipping
the facility with some of the best medical imaging technology available.
Combine that with our specialized technologists and experienced radiologists
with advanced training and our care is unmatched,” said John Restivo, M.D.,
chairman of the Medical Imaging Department.
Rome Memorial Hospital’s Medical Imaging Center was designed to help you feel
more at ease when you come for routine screenings or diagnostic testing. The
warm, calming atmosphere feels like sunshine with daylight pouring into the main
reception area. The curved walls create a natural path to the front desk
so patients instinctively know where they need to go. Our goal is to minimize
patient anxiety every step of the way.
Convenient parking is available in the parking lot located off of Oak Street.
Patients enter under the canopy and take the elevator or stairs directly into
the registration area. All patients are escorted by a technologist to
their exam.
Advanced Technology
With investments in state-of-the-art high definition MRI, digital radiography
and digital mammography, the hospital’s Medical Imaging Center is 100% digital.
Images are delivered directly from the medical imaging equipment to a
sophisticated picture archive communications system where they can immediately
be read by the radiologists. There is no waiting for films to be processed.
Digital Radiography
is commonly used for diagnosing broken bones, pneumonia or scoliosis.
General x-ray services are also available at four offsite locations in Rome.
Rome Medical Plaza, 1617 N. James St.
Rome Medical Group, 1801 Black River Blvd.
Chestnut Commons, 107 E. Chestnut St.
1819 Black River Blvd.
Fluoroscopy
is a specialized x-ray that uses a contrast material to view the
gastrointestinal tract to diagnose ulcers, tumors, blockages or other problems.
64-Slice CT Scan
provides more detailed images of internal organs, bone, soft tissue and blood
vessels. It is a common diagnostic tool for many medical conditions, such
as stroke, cancer, internal injuries, or appendicitis.
Ultrasound
uses sound waves to examine the heart, blood vessels, gallbladder, abdominal
organs, kidneys, prostate, breasts, thyroid and pelvis. The 4D ultrasound
technology can capture movement inside the body, such as the heart beating or
blood flowing through the vessels.
Nuclear Medicine
uses gamma cameras to trace small amounts of radioactive material injected in
the body to produce its images. Bone scans are commonly ordered to detect
arthritis, fractures, infections, tumors, and unexplained causes of bone pain.
Other studies include the heart stress test and scans of the gallbladder,
thyroid and kidneys.
High Definition MRI
delivers outstanding image clarity for the most accurate diagnoses possible.
MRI technology uses computers and magnetic fields, rather than x-rays, for
neurological, vascular, musculoskeletal and breast exams.
Women’s Imaging Center
Rome Memorial Hospital created a special place for women within the new Medical
Imaging Center for added privacy and comfort. The Women’s Imaging Center has
its own waiting room and central dressing area, where women have a secure place
to store their belongings. The design is configured so women don’t have to dress
and undress between procedures if they are scheduled for multiple imaging
studies.
Digital Mammography
is a low-dose x-ray that is more sensitive than traditional film mammography in
detecting cancer in some groups of women. Our advanced system is the same
one used by nationally renowned facilities, such as the Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center. Our
mammography services are accredited and earn excellent
ratings from the American College of Radiology and the
FDA (according to its Mammography Quality Standards
Act). We have the longest-standing ACR accreditation in
the City of Rome.
Breast MRI
uses a powerful magnetic field and a computer to produce more detailed pictures
of the breast. The American Cancer Society recommends routine breast
screening with MRI for women who are at higher risk of breast cancer.
Breast Ultrasound
uses sound waves to help diagnose breast abnormalities detected by a physician
during a physical exam and to characterize potential abnormalities seen on a
mammogram.
Bone Densitometry
a simple scan used to measure bone loss to diagnose osteoporosis before a
debilitating fracture occurs.
Obstetric Ultrasound
gives mom her first look at the new baby growing inside her. It is
commonly used to estimate the due date and assess the baby’s growth, well-being
and position.
Experienced, Specialized Radiologists
Our 14 board certified radiologists received their training at
major medical schools such as Harvard, Duke, Lahey Clinic, SUNY Health Sciences
Center and Tufts with additional expertise in radiological sub-specialties, such
as abdominal, neuroradiology, musculoskeletal and breast MRI.

Additional Resources
The
American College of Radiology and the Radiological
Association of America have developed a website
providing consumer information designed to answer your
questions related to the many radiologic procedures and
therapies available to you and your family.
The
Web site,
www.radiologyinfo.org tells you how various x-ray,
CT, MRI, ultrasound, radiation therapy and other
procedures are performed. It also addresses what you may
experience and how to prepare for the exams. |
