Get the Total Picture
Whether you need a routine mammogram or an emergency CT
scan, Rome Memorial Hospital’s Medical Imaging
Department has the experience and technology you and
your doctor need. Our team of board certified
radiologists and nearly 50 medical imaging employees
perform about 70,000 patient procedures annually.

Once
known as simply the “X-ray department,” the field of
Medical Imaging has grown to encompass many
technological breakthroughs and ways to gain perspective
on what is happening within the human body.
By
providing an alternative to surgical exploration,
Medical Imaging allows your physician to identify and
pinpoint the location of a medical problem in a
relatively pain free manner.
The
scope of Medical Imaging extends far beyond the
capabilities of general X-rays by putting to use sound
waves, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance and more.
Rome
Memorial Hospital’s Medical Imaging services combine
these technological advances with caring, skilled
technologists to provide the best in diagnostic and
treatment services.
More
Than One Way to Get the Picture
Diagnostic X-ray :
State-of-the-art technology means that our X-ray
patients benefit from the
latest
advances in radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment.
The radiographic and fluoroscopic digital imager
delivers quality results with less radiation exposure
and quicker exams.
CT
Scan:
By
detecting some conditions that conventional X-rays
cannot, CT scans can provide cross-sectional images of
bone, organs and fluids. The hospital’s 64-slice CT
scanner achieves superior image quality and provides
quicker exams for patients.
Nuclear Medicine:
By
using very tiny amounts of radioactive materials,
nuclear medicine can diagnose, and sometimes treat,
disease. When administered, various radioactive isotopes
“target” certain organs or tissue. The isotopes then
give off radiation that can only be seen by special
imaging equipment.
Ultrasound:
Known
for its ability to monitor the development of unborn
babies, ultrasound uses harmless sound waves to create
an image on a video screen. It is used for a number of
diagnostic purposes beyond the area of obstetrics.
Bone Densitometry:
Rome Memorial Hospital has a state-of-the-art Lunar Dexa
bone densitometer to diagnose osteoporosis. With a
physician’s order, you can have a simple bone study to
determine if you are experiencing a significant level of
bone loss. We store your results in a database for
comparison year after year.
Mammography:
A
mammogram is an X-ray of the breast that uses a very low
dose of radiation. This simple test can detect possible
irregularities in the breast that can be too small or
deep to feel. The department uses the R2 Technology
ImageChecker®, a powerful ally in the early detection of
breast cancer. Combined with the expertise of our
radiologists, the computer-aided detection system helps
us identify some of the smallest cancers earlier, when
they’re more easily treated.
MRI: Magnetic resonance imaging, commonly
known as MRI, uses radiofrequency waves and a strong magnetic field rather than
x-rays to provide clear and detailed pictures of internal organs, blood vessels
and soft tissues. Rome MRI Associates provides MRI services at 1819 Black
River Blvd.
