    Advanced technology and total care.

Rome Memorial Hospital's orthopedic surgeons offer a full range of diagnostic and treatment services from total joint replacements to carpal tunnel surgery to get you back into action.

    Total Joint Replacement

Arthritis, injuries or simply years of use can damage joints, causing a breakdown in the cartilage that cushions them. When this happens, the bones become more exposed and rub together with every aspect of your life – walking, recreation, leisure, family life and work.

When surgery is the best option to relieve your joint pain, the orthopedic surgeons at Rome Memorial Hospital provide a comprehensive total joint replacement program. Advanced surgical techniques include a computer-assisted navigation system to map out the patient's anatomy on a computer for a better custom fit.  This advanced surgical technology results in improved outcomes.  In knee replacement surgery, greater precision in the alignment of the joint reduces joint wear so the new knee works better and lasts longer.

Rome Memorial Hospital offer a seamless approach to your care that begins before surgery with pre-operative educational sessions on what to expect while in the hospital and how to prepare for your return home.  Patients appreciate our surgeons’ willingness to take time to listen to their concerns, explain their options and answer their questions.  Before surgery, you will meet with a physical therapist to learn exercises that you will use before and after surgery to speed your recovery. During this session, we will also obtain baseline information to track your progress.

After surgery, therapy begins in the hospital as we work with you to get you up and moving as soon as possible. We are diligent in assessing and managing pain to enable you to participate fully in your rehabilitation.

Before you go home, discharge planners will also arrange for home care, outpatient therapy, or any equipment that you may need to continue your recovery. Approximately three days after surgery, most patients continue their recovery in the hospital’s sub-acute rehabilitation program. A case manager will discuss the rehabilitation options available under your insurance plan.

If you participate in the sub-acute Rehabilitation Program, you will receive up to three hours of physical and occupational therapy daily to:

    • Maximize your range of motion
    • Rebuild your strength
    • Improve your balance and coordination
    • Maximize your mobility and independence
    • Reduce pain

Although each patient’s therapy program is individualized, most rehab patients spend up to 10 days in one of our comfortable rehabilitation units before they are discharged home to continue their recovery.

    Driven by Outcomes

Our Joint Rehabilitation Program uses evidence-based techniques to ensure that we deliver the best outcomes for our patients. That means we use standardized testing to assess your functional abilities before, during and after treatment to track your progress.

Although we use clinical tools to measure the program’s outcomes, we never lose sight of the fact that you measure success by the impact on your quality of life.

Evidenced-based rehabilitation helps you return to a more active lifestyle as soon as possible. Every step of the way, you are the center of our rehabilitation team. We stay focused on providing you with the support and encouragement to help you achieve your goals.
