“Keep Your Smile
Bright: Dental Health Issues for Seniors” focus of
Hospital’s Senior Live & Learn Program
ROME – “Keep Your Smile
Bright: Dental Health Issues for Seniors” will be the
August topic of Rome Memorial Hospital’s monthly Senior
Live & Learn program, a free educational outreach
program designed for seniors. Miranda Von Matt, BS,
volunteer coordinator and community health educator,
will present the program to the public on Thursday,
August 12 at 12:30 p.m. at the Ava Dorfman Senior Civic Center in
Rome.
The free program will
also be offered to residents at the following
locations:

12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10

1:30 p.m. Monday, August 16

“Today’s seniors want to
stay healthy and look good,” said Von Matt. “Exercise,
eating right and having regular physicals help, but
seniors can also enhance their overall well-being by
taking good care of their teeth and gums,” she added.
Von Matt will discuss
oral-health problems that can occur as one ages, how to
prevent oral health problems, how side effects from
prescription drugs can affect oral health, how health
conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or cancer can
affect oral health, and recommendations for long-term
denture wearers.
“As with other health
care issues, prevention is the key,” said Von Matt.
“Regular brushing and flossing is the best defense when
it comes to maintaining oral hygiene and health.”
Pre-registration is not
required to attend the program.
