Foundation Appoints
Four New Board Members
ROME –The
Rome Memorial Hospital Foundation has appointed four new board
members, announced Board President William F. Tracy. The new board
members are: Shirley Smith, a Rome Memorial Hospital registered
nurse; Carl Isley, a commercial lender with M& T Bank, Rome; Jack
Atkinson, a retired Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation supervisor; and
Varghese Samuel, technical representative for Virgin America at
Empire Aero.
“We are
very pleased that these four professionals have joined our board,”
said Tracy. “They are interested in furthering the mission of the
Foundation and will bring new ideas and creativity to our board,”
said Tracy.
The Rome
Memorial Hospital Foundation
supports the not-for-profit Rome Memorial Hospital, which treats
patients regardless of their ability to pay. The Foundation’s
mission is to help offset decreasing reimbursements and increasing
costs in order to continue to provide quality healthcare to the
greater Rome community.
Smith has
been a nurse at Rome Memorial Hospital for over 29 years and brings
extensive knowledge of the hospital and clinical operations to the
board. “Shirley is known for her outstanding attitude and
leadership abilities,” said hospital President and Chief Executive
Officer Darlene Burns, MS, RN. Smith has been the recipient of the
Clinical Employee of the Year, the Supervisor of the Year and the
C.A.R.E. award. She was co-chair of the Foundation’s first Annual
Employee Giving Campaign, which garnered over $15,000 for the
Foundation. Smith resides in Lee with husband John.
Isley has
been a commercial lender with M&T Bank since 1999. “His knowledge
of finance, the banking industry and business will help ensure
excellence in the stewardship of the Foundation’s endowment,” said
Tracy. He holds an master’s in business administration from the
University of Rochester’s Simon School of Business. Prior to
joining M&T Bank, Isley was a financial analyst with Prudential
Insurance Company of America, Newark, NJ. He resides in Manlius with
his wife, Joelle, and three children.
Atkinson
held various supervisory positions with Niagara Mohawk Power
Corporation for over 42 years. “Jack brought vision and energy to
the steering committee for our 2006 Ball & Auction,” said Executive
Director Kerr Flanders. Atkinson will also be serving on the
steering committee for the 2007 event. He resides in Clinton with
his wife Rosemel, practice administrator for the Rome Medical Group.
As the
technical representative for Virgin America at Empire Aero, Rome,
Samuel oversees aircraft maintenance and engineering. Prior to
joining Virgin America, Samuel was engineering director with Airbus
operator Air Deccan. Samuel and his wife, Joice Samuel, MD, a
pediatrician, reside in Rome with their daughter Saya.
In
addition to these four new board members, the Rome Memorial Hospital
Foundation board is comprised of: William F. Tracy, president of
Sagemark, Rome; Dale Kinne, realtor with First Rome Realty, Rome;
Jane Macior, CPCU, ARM, Brown & Brown Insurance; Steve Sislo, ChFC,
broker, Sislo Investments; Darlene Burns, MS, RN, president and
Chief Executive Officer, Rome Memorial Hospital; Charles Getty,
retired; Nicholas Mayhew, assistant vice president of
finance/support services, Rome Memorial Hospital; Bob Mortis,
director of performing arts, Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute;
Mark E. Stuart, Lt. Colonel, Northeast Air Defense Sector; Dennis
Surace, NBT Bank; Dr. Mildred Swarts, retired.
The Rome
Memorial Hospital Foundation recently conducted a capital campaign
for the hospital’s new Emergency Department, with over $3.2 million
contributed by donors and the community. This was the largest
capital campaign ever conducted in the city of Rome. “The
Foundation is looking forward to leading fundraising efforts to
enable the hospital to continue its expansion and improvement
program,” said Flanders. |
