Rome Memorial Hospital Appoints
Operating Room Managers
ROME
– Russell Arant has been named operating room manager at Rome
Memorial Hospital.
Arant oversees the clinical and financial management of the
operating room.
In
addition, the hospital has promoted Nadine Favata, RN, CNOR to
the position of operating room unit nurse manager.
“Arant’s healthcare, business and administrative experience will
enable Rome Memorial Hospital to refine the process of the
operating room to best serve our patients, physicians and
staff,” said Shirley Cummings, R.N., CAPA, Rome Memorial
Hospital’s director of perioperative services. “His positive
attitude is contagious. We are very fortunate to have Russell
leading our operating room team as we move forward clinically,
environmentally and financially.”
“Our
mission is two-fold,” Arant explained. “Quality care and
efficiency both play a role in a patient-centered environment.”
“Our
physicians are balancing their time between the hospital and
their office,” he said. “By fostering a partnership between the
operating room staff and the surgeons, our patients and surgeons
are less likely to experience delays. This partnership allows
us to focus on our number-one concern, the patient.”
“I
am proud to be working with a solid, skilled operating room
team,” Arant said. “The people here are compassionate and
caring. We set high expectations to provide the best quality
care with the greatest patient satisfaction. We want our
families and friends to be proud to come here for their care.”
A
native of South Carolina, Arant earned his master’s degree in
hospital administration from the Medical University of South
Carolina in 2005. He graduated summa cum laude while working
full time as a managed care specialist for Lexington Medical
Center to finance his education. He holds a bachelor of science
degree in biological sciences.
Before returning to Central New
York and to his roots in health care, Arant was employed in the
business sector where he strengthened his leadership, employee
training and customer service skills.
In his spare time, he is an
expert-level off-road motorcycle and mountain bike racer, a
certified indoor cycling instructor and a self-taught woodworker
and skilled craftsman. He volunteers as a Eucharistic Minister
and youth group leader for St. Peter’s Catholic Church and with
the Rome Main Streets Alliance downtown Rome revitalization
campaign.
Arant resides in Rome with his
wife, LeRyiah, director of the Rome Main Streets Alliance.
Nadine Favata, RN, CNOR, who is
nationally certified in operating room nursing, has been
appointed Rome Memorial Hospital’s operating room unit nurse
manager. Favata oversees the clinical requirements of the
operating room as well as surgeons’ specific needs.
“Nadine’s
clinical expertise and broad knowledge base is essential to the
everyday workings of the operating room,” said manager Russell
Arant. “I am impressed with her focus on quality patient care
and her drive for excellence.”
“Nadine leads a unique team with
special skill sets,” Arant added. “That’s what makes it work.”
“Waiting to have surgery is a
stressful time for patients,” explained Favata. “Minor delays
create major anxiety. That is why appropriate scheduling and
staffing is so important in the operating room.”
“Our team works closely with the
physicians to provide state-of-the-art equipment, qualified
staff and an appropriate schedule designed to reduce our
patients’ anxiety and provide quality care,” she said.
“As unit nurse manager, my job is to
coordinate and communicate with our patients, families and
surgeons.”
“The operating room is
only one piece of the puzzle. I make sure that our team works
closely with other hospital departments to provide continuity in
care,” Favata said.
Favata began her healthcare career
29 years ago when she graduated from BOCES’ first certified
nurse assistant program in 1978 and became Rome Memorial
Hospital’s first certified nurse assistant. She worked
full-time as an operating room technician for nine years. In
1990, Favata graduated with honors as a registered nurse from
St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing.
In 1994, Favata was recognized by
her peers as a “Nurse of Excellence.” She became nationally
certified in operating room nursing in 1995 and has most
recently served as the hospital’s perioperative coordinator in
charge of operating room employee education and orientation.
Favata is a member of the
Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses and is the only
certified patient liaison for malignant hyperthermia, a response
sometimes triggered by general anesthesia, in the Northeast.
When not at the hospital, Nadine
likes to spend time with her grandchildren and teach them the
culture and traditions of Hawaii, her home state.
Nadine resides in Rome with her
husband, Nicholas. They have two children.
