Hospital announces cardiopulmonary director

ROME – Eileen G. Luley, MS, RRT, has joined Rome Memorial Hospital as director of cardiopulmonary services announced Basil Ariglio, senior vice president/chief operating officer.  “We are pleased to welcome Eileen to our hospital,” he said.  “She brings over 20 years of experience in respiratory care, the last seven in various supervisory capacities, to our team.”

“Making sure our patients receive the best cardiac and respiratory treatment is always our goal,” Luley said.  “As director of cardiopulmonary services, I will be working with the clinicians to continuously improve the quality care expected of Rome Memorial Hospital.”

“Our team will be working on further developing and implementing evidence-based protocols to empower our clinicians to be responsive to patients’ needs,” explained Luley.

Luley comes to Rome Memorial Hospital from Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare where she was supervisor and then operations manager of Respiratory Care Services. These management and supervisory positions provided her with experience in the day-to-day operation of a respiratory care department, pulmonary rehabilitation programming and clinical decision making.

“Rome Memorial Hospital provides a close, family-oriented environment for both patients and staff,” Luley said.  “The hospital is growing – the emergency department expansion is just one example. I am glad to have the opportunity to grow with it.”

At Rome Memorial Hospital, Luley will supervise and manage respiratory therapy and cardio diagnostic services instrumental in detecting heart abnormalities.  These include electrocardiograms, cardiac stress testing, Holter monitoring and digital echocardiograms.

A registered respiratory therapist, Luley holds a master of science in health education from SUNY Cortland, and a bachelor of professional studies in health services management from SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome.

Her dedication to her patients and the overall good health of her community is evident in her work with local committees and task forces. Luley has been involved with critical care and “rapid response” initiatives. While a member of the Code Cart Task Force she helped standardize code cart equipment and policies.  Luley served as a member of the Cancer Center Education Program and the Tobacco Cessation Partners of Tri-County.

At Rome Memorial Hospital, Luley continues her work to advance evidence-based practices in critical care by serving on the Critical Care Committee.  She is also a member of the hospital’s Emergency Department and Patient Safety committees.

“Our role is to assure our patients receive the appropriate level of care.  The cardiopulmonary team will be working to continue to advance the skill level of our clinicians and explore new technology,” Luley said.  “My goal is to improve patient, physician and employee satisfaction through communication and education.”

She lives in Barneveld with her husband, Don, and three children, Sarah, Abby and Tom.
