Hospital nurses complete coronary care course ROME – Twenty nurses at Rome Memorial Hospital graduated from a 72-hour coronary care course offered by the hospital’s Education Department. The graduates include registered nurses Carolyn Allen, Darcey Bullinski, Thomas Creaser, Larisa Graziano, Amber Hawkins, Deanna Johnson, Ruth Jones, Kylee LaRock, Kimberly Lynch, Nicole Marchesani-Hall, Regina Moroso, Lynn Philley, Stephanie Pick, Renae Pilok, Rachel Reising, Tricia Russel, Julie Smith, Jerry Walter, Justin Warren and licensed practical nurse Kathryn Mulkey. The class, offered free to hospital nurses, is a hospital requirement for all nurses staffing a critical care unit. The course provides in-depth knowledge of cardiac medicine and coronary care. It was taught by Richard Simpson, RN, CCRN, the hospital’s critical care coordinator, assisted by clinical educator Sandra Mahoney, RN, CCRN. The nurses studied cardiac rhythms, electrocardiography interpretation, cardiopulmonary emergencies, cardiovascular pharmacology, general coronary care and cardiac teaching. “Because the hospital is committed to the continuing education of its staff, the Education Department provides several opportunities a year for employees to upgrade their skills,” Simpson said. “This coronary care class provides the nurses with a strong knowledge base to care for our cardiac patients.” |
