Rome Memorial Hospital Registered Nurses Promoted ROME –Rome Memorial Hospital Registered Nurses Katrina Wolfe and Rachel Gubbins have received promotions, announced Vice President of Nursing Durinda Durr, R.N. Wolfe has been appointed to the 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. unit nurse manager for 2 North and Gubbins has been appointed to the nurse manager for the Intensive Care Unit. “Both of these nurses were promoted because they have shown leadership qualities and are focused on providing quality patient care,” said Durr. “They have both shown ‘grace under pressure’ while working in very stressful environments and they are both very organized,” she added. Wolfe has been employed by the hospital since 1991 and was previously the 3 to 11 p.m. Intensive Care Unit nurse manager. She is a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing and holds a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Keuka College. Wolfe said her management philosophy centers on respect. “I try to make sure that I am respectful to my staff and I believe that respect goes two ways,” she said. “I believe in being fair and that everyone be treated equally regardless of title,” she added. “My major challenge is to coordinate the day-to-day activity with patients, physicians and staff,” she said. “2 North is an extremely busy unit and my goal is to ensure that the physical, social and nutritional needs of our patients are met,” she added. “Katrina is a very organized person, she is a good listener and she is a patient advocate,” said Durr. “These are the qualities that enable her to be a successful unit manager,” she added. Wolfe and her husband Bruce reside in Williamstown. Gubbins has been with the hospital since 1990 and was previously a staff nurse and a unit nurse manager in ICU. “In my new role, I am responsible for teaching, educating and mentoring staff, budgeting, and helping to facilitate clear communications among the staff and our patients,” said Gubbins. “In order to successfully oversee all three shifts on the unit, good communication is key,” she added. Gubbins said that her role is to assist staff to help them ‘do what they do well’.” “Rachel is very outgoing, respectful of others and friendly,” said Durr. “She truly focuses on creating an environment of respect among staff and with patients and their families.” “I take the hospital’s customer initiative Quality by Design to heart,” said Gubbins. “I want to build morale and to create an environment of teamwork,” she added. Gubbins holds an associate’s degree in nursing from Mohawk Valley Community College and is currently pursuing her bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from St. Joseph’s College of Maine. She is also a certified critical care nurse (CCRN). She resides in Rome with her husband, Kevin, and four children. |
