Three Nurse Managers Appointed at RMH ROME -- Registered Nurses Dawn Bereza, Kenneth Clark, and Deborah Worth all have something in common. They were recently appointed Nurse Managers at Rome Memorial Hospital because of their excellent communication skills, their clinical expertise, and their willingness to expand upon their leadership development and contribute to the advancement of patient care staff. “They are committed to providing safe quality patient care to our patients and families. They understand the principles of being a team leader and team player,” said Vice President of Nursing Durinda Durr, MS, RN. “Their leadership will advance staff participation and collaboration across all disciplines to ensure fulfillment of the hospital’s mission, vision and philosophy for our patients and community,” she added. Rome Memorial Hospital’s Nursing Department Mission Statement is: to provide and coordinate compassionate and professional care to patients, their families and the community in an environment that utilizes, promotes, and supports collegial relationships, critical thinking, flexibility, patient care research and technology. Bereza, nurse manager for the 3 to 11 p.m. shift on 2 East, has been with the hospital since 1989. She was previously the unit Nurse Manager for 2 South, during which time it was the Medical/Surgical Unit. “I am ready for new challenges on 2 East,” said Bereza. “My goals are to focus on team work, facilitate communication among staff, and to continue to focus on excellence in patient care,” she said. Bereza started working at Rome Memorial Hospital after graduating with an associate’s degree from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing program in Utica. She holds a bachelor of nursing degree from SUNY IT, Marcy. “I volunteered at Rome Memorial Hospital as a candy striper during my high school years and could always remember wanting to be a nurse, to follow in my mother’s footsteps,” said Bereza. She and her husband, John, reside in Rome with their two sons, Johnny and Jeremy. Clark is the Nurse Manager for 2 North on the 3 to 11 p.m. shift. He was most recently an administrative supervisor at Community General Hospital, Syracuse, where he was responsible for clinical and administrative operations. He has over 20 years in critical care, functioning in clinical, managerial, and educational roles. He is credentialed as a critical care registered nurse and has instructor status in both cardiopulmonary resuscitation and advanced cardiac life support. He was previously the assistant nurse manager and clinical coordinator, as well as a staff nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse. He holds a bachelor of nursing degree from St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center School of Nursing, Syracuse. “As Nurse Manager, my focus will be on team work, development of critical thinking skills, communication and physician/nurse relationships, because each of these promote positive outcomes for patients, staff, physician and all working relationships,” said Clark. “I want staff to try to get involved with committees, to mentor new staff and to take an active role in solving problems,” he added. Clark resides in Manlius. Worth, nurse manager for the 3 to 11 p.m. shift in the Maternity Department, has been with the hospital since 2000. “My background is in the banking industry, but after I had my second child, I knew I wanted to go into nursing,” she said. Worth holds an associate’s degree in Nursing from Mohawk Valley Community College. “As a Nurse Manager, I have several goals, including promoting effective communication with patients, their families, staff, physicians, and other departments,” she said. “I also plan to serve as a role model to enhance the operation of the work environment and to promote the development of nursing staff through their participation in professional organizations and activities.” Worth and her husband, Sean, reside in Rome with daughters Brianna and Megan. |
