insurance information

Rome Memorial Hospital participates with more than 100 insurance companies.

Common Insurance Questions:

Q. Does my insurance cover all the services available through the hospital?

A. The hospital participates with more than 100 insurance programs; however, every insurance policy provides unique coverage. Some services are not covered under some insurance plans.

Q. Why are some services not covered by my insurance plan?

A. Coverage depends on the plan you or your employer selected.  We urge you to verify coverage through your benefits contract or your benefits representative.

Some insurance companies elect to contract exclusively with one provider for services.  That decision by your insurance company can also limit your ability to obtain insurance coverage for a hospital service.

Q. What is pre-certification?

A. Pre-certification is an approval process that is required by some insurance companies for services, such as MRI, CT scans, or physical therapy.  Typically, the physician contacts the patient’s insurance company to obtain the approval before the test or treatment can begin.

Q. Why does it seem that my insurance company pays twice for the same service?

A.  Some services have two components, the physician’s professional service and the hospital’s technical service. For example, when you have an x-ray, two services are provided.  The hospital bills you for taking the x-ray, the radiologist bills you for reading it.  Two bills are also generated for radiation therapy and emergency services, again, one by the doctor and one by the hospital.

Q. Who do I contact when I have an insurance or billing question?

A.  If you have a question about your specific level of insurance coverage, contact your company’s benefits representative or refer to your benefits contract.

Billing questions should be directed to our Business Office which is located at 155 West Dominick Street in Rome.  You can call 315-338-7075 for assistance.
