Rome Memorial Hospital Achieves Three-Year CARF Accreditation ROME - Rome Memorial Hospital has earned the hallmark of quality for its comprehensive integrated inpatient rehabilitation program. The Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has accredited the hospital’s 14-bed rehab program for a period of three years. "This achievement is an indication of your organization’s dedication and commitment to improving the quality of the lives of the people receiving services," wrote Barbara Altman, CARF Vice President, Accreditation and Management, in her letter to the hospital. Acute physical rehabilitation involves helping patients regain the greatest level of functional independence possible through physical, occupational and speech therapy. The individualized treatment plans combine the comprehensive therapy with emotional support to help patients reach their goals after a stroke or other debilitating illness or injury. This accreditation outcome, which represents the highest level of accreditation, is awarded to organizations that show substantial fulfillment of the standards established by CARF. An organization receiving a three-year accreditation outcome has put itself through a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable, and accountable. In its report, CARF praised the hospital’s enthusiastic, knowledgeable and committed leadership, the team communication skills, and the hospital’s commitment to staff education. "We are very proud of this achievement," said Mary Lou Kunkel, Program Director. "Accreditation is affirmation of our commitment to excellence. We have an exceptional team of professionals on staff that love their work and are dedicated to the patients they serve." "The accomplishment is a positive reflection of the skills of the rehabilitation staff and the hospital overall," said Ms. Kunkel. "The rehabilitation program is only two years old and yet it has proven that it was built on a foundation of quality." CARF is an independent, not-for-profit accrediting body promoting quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Since 1966, CARF has established consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. |
